365 Things That Inspire Me
I also do posts for my clay group, beads-of-clay.org. Twice now, I have posted pictures that I took on walks with my dogs in a park near here, 3 Creeks. I post these as creative inspiration for my fellow artists and jewelry designers. These posts have been so well received that I decided to start a blog with daily inspiration in the form of pictures, quotes and poems. These pictures will be things from my immediate environment that I find inspirational or beautiful; textures, colors, contrasts, animals, unusual things, intriguing things. A daily dose of wonder....
"Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, and of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, THINK on these things."
"Earth's crammed with heaven, and every common bush is afire with God, but only he who sees takes off his shoes."
E.B. Browning

Dec 08 2010 Polar Bear
I took this photo at the new polar bear exhibit at the zoo. I photoshopped it and got this surreal look, kind of like a painting. He looks like a bear walking on the moon. The bears were playing with a plastic barrel that looked like an oil drum. I couldn't get photos because of the glass around exhibit. But it was wonderful...one of the bears grabbed the barrel, stood on his hind legs, lifted the barrel over his head and threw it at the other bear! All the kids were screaming with delight!

December 3 2010 Whoville
Another awesome gingerbread house. I was going to take my mom to a Christmas parade in Lebanon today that features over 40 antique horse drawn carriages. But the weather report is 1 to 3 in. of snow south of Columbus, so we have canceled the trip. I needed something to get me in the Christmas spirit! DAng!

Nov 17 2010 Fall Vines
One of the things I like about walking through the seasons is being able to observe all of nature's changes. Everything looks so different now in late fall with a lot of the foliage gone. The bare bones of the plant structures become visible and new vistas open up. I like the skeletal look of this tangle of branches and vines.

Nov 15 2010 Perspective
As I was photographing this tree, and I didn't even see the bicyclists in the background. But their presence in the photo makes the tree look absolutely huge! Isn't it a great image?

Nov 14 2010 Tree Bark Series
Come take a walk through the woods with me, and focus on tree bark. One of the things I love about taking pictures is that the camera can isolate parts of an object and turn it into something else entirely. Where as the eye tends to take in things as a whole and is distracted by "noise" in the environment of the object, the picture can focus in on a single aspect, and the eye can analyze it in a new way. And it is so easy to crop photos with the editing software, enhancing this aspect of pictures even more. Just look at these fantastic textures and colors....

Nov 5 2010 Hermit Crabs
All those little "pebbles" are hermit crabs! They have one large claw. At first I thought they were very large bugs. When I approached them, they would scurry into their holes in the sand, and drop in feet first, holding the claw aloft like a flag!
It reminded me of the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland:"the crab disappeared quite slowly, starting with the legs, and ending with the claw, which lingered for quite some time after the rest of him had gone."
Nov 4 2010 Egret
I took this picture this summer, in Hilton Head. This friendly fellow was just hanging out by the dock where the deep sea fishing boats came in.
